Boy Capel & Chanel

Updated: Mar 27, 2022

Origins of the Iconic CC logo.

There are many theories on how the CC logo came about, but my personal favourite is that it was drawn by Coco in memory of her most intense love affair, with Boy Capel, 6 years after his unfortunate death. That particular theory is that the CC’s stands for ‘Capel & Chanel’.

There are stories that the logo was possibly derived from the cloister orphanage glass stained windows where Coco Chanel grew up. See illustration. Quite possible right?

Nobody knows the entire truth. Because so much time has gone by. The truth in Chanel, is in its legacy.

I was fortunate to be offered this beautiful super vintage bag, to restore. It absolutely screams quality, craftsmanship and hours and hours of work putting this handsome piece together. She is 40+ years old, pre-serial.

This bag is handstitched in its entirety, including the seams and the quilt stitching.

The CC’s on this bag are on the inside, inner flap, handstitched as you can see.

The colour of the bag, is Marron Fonce, which means Chestnut .

It was my great honour to restore her and enable her live on in a healthy way. She needed a vigourous clean, and hydration, an off the shelf conditioner in this case would not do, so I mixed a few custom formulas, for different parts of the bag, enriched with Japanese oil and other nourishing ingredients.

Thank you so much for trusting me with your beautiful beautiful bag x I hope she will live on for another 40+ years.
