A bedtime story about the Pochette Metis 'generations'

A friendly LV bedtime story for you;

Did you know that there are at least 4 ‘generations’ of the Pochette Metis? The best selling bag of the house for the last few years, it even outsells the Neverfull according to my SA’s in some regions although to my knowledge more Neverfulls are produced than PM’s (Simply because it is an easier less time consuming bag to make)

To my knowledge the first date codes I recall seeing are from early 2012. Not many of the 1st generation have survived and I will tell you why;

The first generation PM was like a little trunk with a handle - heavy, very thick canvas and taller silhouette than the ones you see nowadays. Very hard to the touch and reminded you of a little school briefcase and had an extra slip pocket that subsequent PM’s don’t have. It was prone to significant warping and had glazing and cracking issues. Most of these have been taken off the market by quickly being replaced by LV. If you have a 2012 one still it is going to be quite rare and hopefully LV has replaced the glazing for you free of charge.

After a break in production - Second generation was 2014 onwards was more pliable and held more because it was softer and we were able to stuff more into it. This model also suffered cracking and glazing issues.

Late 2017 early 2018 onwards - Third generation the glazing was resolved and the ones from then on have no issues with this. The cracking along the top remains to be an issue, simply because of how the bag is constructed and how the flap behaves in relation to the main body of the bag.

Empreinte versions were released and they appear to not have the issues seen in the canvas versions.

Late 2019 is the fourth and current version of the PM which has been reinforced better on the ‘accordion’ part of the bag. The bag feels more compact again and fits less, similar hold capacity as the 1st generation.... Hopefully this will be it, because we sure like buying the Pochette Metis.

How do I know all this? I have handled this bag over the past 8 years and seen and sometimes fixed every version.

I have been to LV with generation 1, 2, and 3 and discussed their shortcomings in detail until the cows come home.

Despite its flaws I still love this bag If you have read all this you are a hero and I am a geek.
